COVID Policies / Hygiene
On arrival, Preston House staff will be wearing a face covering and keeping physical distancing from all guests. Keys will not be handed to you but sanitised and placed on the bar counter for you. There are ample soap and hand sanitiser dispensers, disp osable tissue dispensers on site. Preston House will be fully sanitised in accordance with government guidelines. Government’s Public Health advice has been implemented and is being adhered to at all times. If you have any specific request in relation to C ovid – 19 the staff of Preston House will do their very best to accommodate.

We want a greener, cleaner world and our sustainable approach has changed the way we use resources. At Preston House, we aim to keep our impact on the environment to a minimum so that future generations can enjoy the natural resources of our beautiful planet. Here is an insight into our policies.

All cleaning chemicals used at Preston House are non – hazardous to the environmen t. Our shampoo’s, conditioners, shower gels and creams are all bio – degradable. 90% of our hotel waste is recovered or recycled each month. We also recycle all our mattresses & printers. We monitor and reduce our energy use and waste production. Settle do wn in front of our cosy fire burning a natural sustainable fuel, in our original Georgian fireplaces . Finished your book? Leave it for someone else in our Free Library. We invite all guests to use the Preston Herb garden. We recommend shops, bars, restaurants, and other suppliers to you with local owners. We invite guests to participate in our ongoing environmental policy by not touching the towels /beds that do not need to be used and then laundered. Preston garden is free of any herbicides or pesticides . We monitor and record our environmental impact on a regular basis and compare our performance with our policies, objectives, and targets.
Where possible our office is paperless. We recycle all paper, cans, glass, plastic, ink cartridges , uniforms, and re – use where possible Lost property is donated to charities after 1 month. We use low energy lighting and switch appliances off when not in use. Preston HQ is cleaned with bio – degradable low phosphate cleaning products. We encourage the use of public transport, cycle, or walk. We work with companies with strong environmental credentials
When travelling in the beautiful county of Laois we would ask you respect a ‘leave no trace’ policy

Please take along a litter bag to carry all refuse. Travel quietly. Avoid making loud and excessive noise. Let nature’s sounds prevail. Walk single – file in the centre of the path and stay on the main trail even if it’s wet. Never shortcut. Look at and photograph, never pick or collect. Never discard cigarette b utts, gum or any litter. Walk softly. Don’t kick up dirt and stones or trample vegetation. Respect any signs, regulations, policies, and special concerns for the area you’re visiting. Respect other visitors and protect the quality of their experience. Obse rve wild animals and birds from a distance. Avoid disturbing them at sensitive times: mating, nesting, and raising young (mostly between spring and early summer). Never feed wildlife or farm animals. Feeding wildlife damages their health and alters natural behaviour . Preserve the past: examine but do not damage archaeological structures, old walls , and heritage artefacts . Conserve the present: leave rocks, flowers, plants, animals, and other natural habitats as you find them

Cancellation & No show
- No cancellation charge if a booking is cancelled 7 days before your date of arrival.
- In the event of a cancellation less than 7 days before arrival, the total cost of the first night will become payable.
- On minimum stay periods the full amount will be liable for payment. A
2-night minimum stay applies some weekends. A 3-night minimum stay applies at event or bank holiday weekends. In the event of a No-show/Non-arrival, the whole amount of total stay booked will be charged. - No shows will be charged at full cost.
About the Location

Preston House is close to the famous and medieval Rock of Dunamaise, Emo Court and Parklands, Ti mahoe Round Tower, Heywood Gardens, and only up the street 200m from the Preston is the Abbeyleix Heritage House and Museum showcasing all the amazing history of our town. Founded in the 18th century, the town is home to a large range of historical struc tures, from ancient ringforts, burial grounds and churches, to beautiful estate houses and the town once had a carpet factory, which produced some of the carpets used on the Titanic. The town also offers several shops and pubs, including Morrissey’s, one o f Ireland’s finest and best-loved pubs. Heritage House is a heritage center which provides visitor information and an exhibition on the county’s history and local attractions. It also provides guided tours of the museum and runs workshops throughout the year. Original antique carpets and vintage costumes are on display, alongside archaeological and historical artefacts, while the enclosed playground on-site has attractive wooden play equipment with a maritime theme, to tie in with the Titanic connection. Slieve Blooms 32km; Rock of Dunamaise 18km; Castlecomer 11 miles; Kilkenny 33 km. The town of Abbeyleix lies in the south of County Laois, not far from the border of County Kilkenny. Abbeyleix is a wonderful base to explore Laois, Kilkenny, and the rest of the South East.
